How to hang bedroom mirrors
Mirrors may be used in the bedroom for the obvious purpose of looking at oneself as well as for decorative reasons. Mirrors are available in various shapes, sizes and styles. They can have a strong impact on the perception of space and can add light to the room. This article provides information on how to hang bedroom mirrors and covers issues like selecting the location, mirror style and tips on fixing.
Selecting the location
Functional purpose
In rooms not constrained by area, a full-length mirror on a wall can be a useful addition. Mirrors can be located as part of a dresser. You may choose a full-length mirror or a smaller one.
Space-saving locations may be sought if the room is not spacious. If both the floor area and the wall space are restricted, you can hang a mirror inside the bedroom entrance door or on a wardrobe shutter. Alternatively, the outer face of wardrobe shutters can have a mirror. Integrating mirrors with the wardrobe is useful since they act as dressing mirrors.
Decorative purpose
Ornate mirrors like gold mirrors, deserve to be focal points and should be centred on walls, over dressers or a chest of drawers. Designer mirrors may have irregular shapes.
For a more unique look, you can cluster smaller wall mirrors together to create a mosaic of fragmented images. Be sure to check the composition by using paper cutouts on the wall, prior to fixing the mirrors.
Fixing tips
Fixing arrangements of mirrors depend on their size. Most bedroom mirrors are large and may require brackets for support. Most modern mirrors are often frameless and are provided with associated screws and brackets. Hardware for heavy mirrors should be fixed on to wall studs.
Always refer to pencil guides to ensure that the wall is hung parallel to the floor base. Make a light line in pencil to indicate the base and vertical sides. This is to ensure that the mirror is level. After drilling holes for brackets, fit the brackets loosely. Place the mirror and tighten the brackets.
For wider mirrors, at least two anchors will be required. The anchors are screwed in using a drill and a screwdriver. The mirror wire can be hung on the screw which is fitted into the anchor.
A handy tip before hanging a bedroom mirror is to ensure that there is sufficient clearance in front of it, so as to allow you to view the image from a distance.
Always select the location of the mirror carefully and use paper cutouts if you are not sure of its final appearance.
